GRENKE Chess Classic: Aronian draws with Lagrave in fifth round
Armenian GM Levon Aronian drew his game against French Maxime Vachier-Lagrave in Round 5 of the GRENKE Chess Classic 2019 taking place in Karlsruhe, Germany.
The Magnus Carlsen-Arkadij Naiditsch, Viswanathan Anand-Fabiano Caruana and Peter Svidler-Francisco Vallejo games also ended in draws, the Armenian National Olympic Committee reports.
The leading Armenian chess player drew with Arkadij Naiditsch, Georg Meier and Francisco Vallejo and defeated Peter Svidler in the previous four rounds.
Having collected 3 points, Aronian is just half a point behind the leaders – Magnus Carlsen and Viswanathan Anand.
The Armenian GM will face 14-year-old German IM Vincent Keymer in the sixth round of the championship scheduled for Friday.
Aronian won the GRENKE Chess Classic in 2017.
