Macron on Armenian Genocide anniv: Man is capable of the worst
We commemorate the Armenian Genocide to make sure that the history does not repeat itself, French President Emmanuel Macron said in a tweet on the 104th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide marked on Wednesday.
“Today, on April 24, we officially commemorate the Armenian Genocide to remember that man is capable of the worst when he forgets what binds him to his fellow and to ensure that history does not repeat its mistakes,” Macron wrote.
France marked its first national day of commemoration of the Armenian Genocide on Wednesday, fulfilling a pledge by its leader.
Macron announced the commemoration at a meeting with representatives of the country’s large Armenian community in February, signing a decree to make April 24 a national day of the Armenian Genocide commemoration on 10 April.
