Armenia performs first-ever liver transplantation
First-ever liver transplantation with a living donor has been performed in Armenia, Minister of Health Arsen Torosyan told a Cabinet meeting on Thursday.
He said the surgery has been performed at Astghik Medical Center in Yerevan with assistance of Russian doctors. The patient and donor were a 56-year-old mother and her daughter, respectively.
Torosyan unveiled the ministry’s plans to further develop the surgery type in Armenia, adding state funds are set to be allocated in 2020 for liver and kidney transplantation in the country.
According to the minister, a liver transplant costs around $100,000.
