Davit Sanasaryan confirms reports about meeting with Pashinyan
Armenia’s oversight service chief Davit Sanasaryan indicted in corruption probe confirmed on Saturday reports that he had met with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. Sanasaryan’s remarks came at an interview with media as he arrived in Mashtots park in Yerevan to join celebrations of Citizen’s Day.
Asked whether he had met with the PM, Sanasaryan said: “We have met, had discussions. He is neither a judge nor a prosecutor to interfere in the case.” Asked whether the PM believes in his honesty, Sansaryan recommended to turn to the PM for the comment.
“To me the greatest trust and faith come from the people as I feel that every day which also empowers me,” added Sanasaryan.
The oversight service chief declined to comment on the charges brought against him and promised to give a press conference with his lawyers to address all inquiries.
To remind, Armenia’s National Security Service (NSS) brought corruption charges against Sanasaryan on Thursday as part of the criminal case launched on February 25, involving two senior officers of the Oversight Service suspected in misconduct. The NSS said they colluded with a company sponsored by them in order to ensure its victory in a state procurement of equipment for three medical facilities. Sansaryan who is temporarily suspended from office at the request of prosecutors, strongly denies any wrongdoing.
