Yerevan Travel agent charged with embezzlement in Armenia
The Investigative Committee of Armenia has brought charges against a former employee of a Yerevan travel agency for cheating customers and embezzling large sums of money.
As reported earlier, several customers, who paid large sums to the agent of Yerevan Travel to go on vacations in Egypt, found out there were no air tickets or reservation after some time.
The agent, identified as Anna Sahakyan, is also accused of stealing customers’ money under the pretext of booking hotel rooms or reserving restaurants in Yerevan.
The committee told Panorama.am, the ex-employee has embezzled a total of 9,610,515 drams from January to September 2018 by making reservations in different hotels and restaurants in the Armenian capital on behalf of the organization.
Sahakyan has been released on a signature bond. She is charged with embezzlement in large amounts under Article 179.3 of Armenia’s Criminal Code and is facing up to eight years in prison if found guilty.
