Artsakh former and current presidents may attend Kocharyan’s hearing to act as guarantors
In case of changing the pre-trial custody as detention measure Kocharyan will demonstrate proper behavior and will not obstruct the investigation of the criminal proceedings, member of Armenia’s ex-president defense team Hayk Alumyan stated on Tuesday at the hearing of the latter’s case in the Yerevan court.
To note, the court under the presiding judge Davit Grigoryan is hearing a motion to release Kocharyan from pre-trial custody.
Lawyer Hovhannes Khudoyan next read out the letter by Artsakh Republic President Bako Sahakyan and second President of Artsakh Arkady Ghukasyan about providing a public guarantee necessary for Kocharyan’s release from custody until the end of trial.
In the lawyer’s words, the presidents guarantee that Kocharyan in freedom will attend the court hearing and asked the judge to change the detention measure with subsequent follow-up of all requirements set by the law.
Judge Grigoryan detailed that the guarantors should be present at the hearing and the court should inform them about their rights and responsibilities. “The court should be assured in their free will then listen to objections of the other side before hearing the petition,” noted the judge.
