Eurovision 2019: First 10 nations advance to final
The first semifinal of the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 came to a close late Tuesday, sending 10 countries’ acts to the Grand Final and seven others home, AP reports.
Contestants from Australia, Iceland, Greece, Belarus, Serbia, Cyprus, Estonia, Czech Republic, San Marino and Slovenia moved ahead after televotes trickled in, with much suspense, from all 41 countries in the contest. The national votes are split between a professional jury and phone-in viewers.
Tuesday’s round dashed the dreams of performers from Montenegro, Finland, Poland, Hungary, Georgia, Portugal and Belgium.
Armenia’s Srbuk will perform first in the second semifinal of Eurovision 2019 set for Thursday. She will perform ‘Walking Out’, a song composed by Lost Capital and tokionine, with the lyrics penned by Garik Papoyan, who also wrote Aram MP3’s “Not Alone” for Eurovision 2014.
The second semifinal also will vault 10 countries to the final round, which will be held Saturday night in Tel Aviv.
The representatives of the Big Five – France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom – and host country Israel are automatically pre-qualified for the grand final.
