FM: Visa liberalization with EU a key issue for Armenia
Visa liberalization with the European Union is an extremely important issue for Armenia, Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan told reporters in Brussels after a high-level conference on the 10th anniversary of the EU Eastern Partnership program.
The Armenian official described the issue as a "a choice beyond geopolitics" and a "model stemming from our national interests."
He stressed visa liberalization is not the only but the key tool potentially strengthening human interaction.
“That’s an extremely important issue for us. But it is not the only tool, since we pay attention to and try to develop also the other opportunities related to the contacts in educational, cultural, scientific and other circles, bringing our citizens closer to their colleagues on this continent and expanding the existing opportunities,” the FM said.
Meantime, the Armenian foreign policy chief did not unveil specific timeframes for Armenia’s visa liberalization with the EU, adding it is a ‘matter of every moment’, a key issue on Armenia’s agenda and an ongoing process.
“The most important thing is to have an opportunity to estimate our capacities to initiate it. We are confident that we have a sufficient progress in this matter. Combining all this and pushing ahead with our agenda, we need to speed up this process. For us, I repeat again, this is a fundamental matter,'' the minister said.
