Statistics reveal poor building conditions in Armenian schools, lacking heating system, water and even sanitation
The Armenian National Statistical Service published a report about the condition of school buildings of 1409 schools operating throughout the territory of Armenia. According to the released figures, only 564 school buildings are in a satisfactory state, 459 schools require reconstruction and 386 schools are in need of ongoing renovations.
The majority of the schools lack hot water soppy while in 72 schools no water is available. 432 schools lack gas supply and they are heated with wood stoves or electrical devices, while nine schools in Gegharkunik, Kotayk, Syunik, Vayots Dzor and Tavush provinces are not heated at all.
The situations is troublesome in some 140 schools of the country where no proper sanitary facilities exist. Those schools are in all provinces, including in capital Yerevan.
