Prosecutors to appeal release of general ex-President Kocharyan
Armenia’s Prosecutor General’s Office will appeal the ruling of the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction releasing former president Robert Kocharyan from pre-trial detention on bail, one of the prosecutors stated outside the court at a briefing with reporters.
“We have received the court decision and have not get familiarized with the justifications of the court for changing the detention measure yet. Given the fact that we principally consider the custody as the only right measure to be applied in the scope of the current case we will appeal the court ruling,” the prosecutor said. He added that the Prosecutor’s Office will come up with details after getting familiarized with the full text of the court decision.
To remind, the Yerevan Court of general Jurisdiction, under presiding judge Davit Grigoryan, ruled today to release Armenia’s second President Robert Kocharyan from pre-trial detention.
The decision was made considering the personal guarantees offered by Artsakh former and current presidents who earlier appeared in the court to sign the respective letter. Kocharyan has been set free on bail.
