The Constitutional Court of Armenia says the criminal case against Armenia’s second President Robert Kocharyan and three other former top officials prosecuted in connection with the 2008 post-election events, is currently under preliminary examination.

Earlier on Monday Davit Grigoryan, the judge presiding over the case, suspended Kocharyan’s trial citing a “suspicion of discrepancy” between the Armenian Constitution and the charges brought against the ex-president two days after ordering his release from custody and forwarded the case to the Constitutional Court for review.

“The appeal is in the phase of preliminary study. The preliminary examination is being conducted in a manner and within the timeframes prescribed by the Constitutional Court’s regulations,” the court said in a statement.

Under the Armenian law, the court has one month to decide whether to rule on the judge’s appeal.
