Armenia’s Supreme Judicial Council chief steps down
Gagik Harutyunyan has quitted as Chairman of Armenia’s Supreme Judicial Council, the council said in a Facebook post, posting a photo of his resignation letter dated for May 24.
“Given the ongoing developments concerning the judiciary and judges as well as the concerns I voiced in this regard on May 20, I no longer find it appropriate to continue serving as a member and Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council,” reads the letter.
Harutyunyan said he will soon issue a statement addressing citizens in Armenia, Artsakh and the Diaspora.
“I am confident that from now on I will have enough free time to carry out more intensive activities especially within the international professional partnership for the benefit of the Armenian people. God bless our country and people!” he concluded.
