Minsk Group Co-Chairs hosted at the Armenian defense ministry
Defense Minister of Armenia Davit Tonoyan received today the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs Igor Popov (Russia), Stéphane Visconti (France), Andrew Schofer (U.S.) who are paying a working visit to Armenia as part of the regional trip. The meeting was attended by Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office Andrzej Kasprzyk.
As the press department at the ministry said in a statement, the meeting addressed the current situation at the Armenian-Azerbaijani state border and the Line of Contact between Azerbaijani and Artsakh forces.
Minister Tonoyan highlighted the operative connection established in October 2018 between the political leaderships of Azerbaijan and Armenia, reiterating the need for launching the communication across the Line of Contact between Artsakh and Azerbaijan as well as the commander staff of the conflicting sides.
Tonoyan brought to the attention of the Co-Chairs the recent ceasefire violation incidents, specifically the military exercised held by Azerbaijan in May, without prior notification of the international community as the as the ceasefire violation incidents with involvement of snipers. In the minister’s words, despite the negative trends, Armenia remains committed to the ceasefire regime and measures aimed at reducing risks for excluding any type of provocation.
Tonoyan added the RA Armed Forces and the Artsakh Defense Army closely follow the situation and control the moves of the adversary with a primary mission to ensure favorable conditions for peaceful talks thought preserving the military balance at the strategic and tactical level.
