Italian town selling homes for just €1
Bargain home hunters will find it hard to beat this deal - an Italian town is selling its homes for just €1 (85p), The Sun reports.
The local government in Mussomeli in southern Sicily is selling 100 abandoned properties online and it is expected to have another 400 added soon.
The government posted signs on the doors of the homes up for grabs in the town of 11,000 residents.
Besides all of the traditional culinary delights the region possesses, the town is also home to a medieval castle and ancient churches.
But, of course, there’s a catch.
Buyers must agree to renovate their new homes within a year of purchase or they will lose their $8,000 (£4,270) security deposit.
Renovations are expected to cost about $107 (57) per square foot and other costs include administration fees of between $4000 (£2,135) and $6450 (£3,443).
Italy's small villages are struggling to hold on to residents, with many deserting the regions for urban areas.
So much so that towns like Mussomeli have taken the drastic step of selling abandoned homes for less than half the price of a barista made coffee.
Last year, the beautiful island of Sardinia also offered its homes for just €1 each.
And in 2017, over 100 properties were given away for free.
