Georgia ex-leader Saakashvili has Ukrainian citizenship restored
Ukraine's new president has given citizenship back to former Georgian leader Mikheil Saakashvili almost two years after it was removed, BBC reported. Volodymyr Zelensky made the change in a decree on Tuesday.
As the source reminds, his predecessor, Petro Poroshenko, appointed Saakashvili as governor of Ukraine's Odessa region in 2015. But relations soured, and the former Georgian president was later deported and had his citizenship taken away. He was then deported from Ukraine in February 2018 and banned from entering the country for three years.
Following the announcement on Tuesday, Mr Saakashvili wrote on Facebook: "Thank you President Zelensky! Glory to Ukraine!"
