Armenian ex-official freed from custody, placed under house arrest in Russia
A Russian court changed the detention measure for former Chief of Armenia’s Compulsory Enforcement Service Mihran Poghosyan detained in Russia, stolicaonego.ru reported.
The Petrozavodsk court decision came after the Prosecutor’s Office petitioned to extend the pre-trial detention for Poghosyan for six months, while Poghosyan’s lawyer Mikhail Yamchitsky, in turn, petitioned to replace the detention measure with house arrest.
The court has acceded the lawyer’s request to place Poghosyan under house arrest for period of six months which is subject to appeal by Karelia Supreme Court.
To remind, Russian law enforcement officers detained Mihran Poghosyan, a former MP and chief of the Compulsory Enforcement Service prosecuted on corruption charges on April 22.
The ex-official was found in the Russian Republic of Karelia. A Yerevan court allowed the Special Investigation Service to arrest Poghosyan within the framework of the criminal case
for committing socially dangerous acts, particularly, for using his official position he seized a large amount of property by way of wasting and abused his official authority, which caused grave consequences.
