Armenia’s defense minister defends creation of April war commission
Defense Minister of Armenia Davit Tonoyan believes the creation of a commission to investigate the April 2016 war in Artsakh was necessary in the event of a public demand.
“If the society is satisfied with the responses to be provided as a result of the commission’s work, all the concerns, including those that arose among the people as a result of the adversary’s informative actions, will be dispelled,” the ministers told reporters at the National Assembly on Thursday.
Asked whether there is a study on the circumstances of the four-day war carried out by the former authorities, Tonoyan said such a study is available and will be provided to the commission.
“It is a professional analysis not intended for public disclosure. It will be provided to the commission,” the minister said.
The Armenian parliament set up an ad hoc commission tasked with investigating the April war after Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan’s call on 20 May.
