Water trucks ready to put out possible wildfires in Khosrov Forest Reserve, deputy head says
Water tank trucks stand ready to extinguish possible wildfires in Armenia’s Khosrov Forest Reserve, Deputy Director Smbat Gharibyan assured, addressing raising fears of fires during hot weather.
Speaking to Panorama.am, the official said they carry out plenary works annually, including cleaning of roads and raising awareness for forest fires among the residents of nearby settlements.
Gharibyan says they have tightened control in the nearby communities, with special crews on a 24/7 duty.
He added they have acquired new water tank trucks this year thanks to the support of various organizations. “We have some 60 water tank trucks. All of them are ready to respond [to wildfires] if needed. Also, we have buckets, spades and moist cloths, with the employees provided with all the necessary clothing,” he stressed.
Also, the deputy director claimed both the flora and fauna damaged in a massive fire that erupted in the Khosrov Forest Reserve in 2017 have been mostly restored.
“Our purpose is to ensure a favorable climate for natural reproduction,” he said.
