Decline in Armenia’s export volumes ‘concerning’, finance chief says
The decline recorded in Armenia’s export volumes is concerning, Finance Minister Atom Janjughazyan said on Wednesday while presenting the annual state budget execution report for 2018 at the National Assembly.
His comments case in response to a question of Bright Armenia lawmaker Arkadi Khachatryan about the reasons behind the decrease in agricultural exports. Also, he cited the official statistics according to which the country saw a decline in IT products as well.
“Money tends to go to such areas where there is a great possibility for an increase. Our efforts are aimed at changing this very structure,” he said.
According to the minister, the government has adopted decisions to support export-oriented businesses.
“Yes, the decline in exports raises concerns, but the government will not delay its efforts. I hope we will achieve success here,” Janjughazyan said.
Arkadi Khachatryan, for his part, stressed the government should elaborate a clear-cut strategy on the exports development. The MP named the replacement of imports and exports promotion, as well as the technological upgrading as key measures to step up exports.
