Ashot Melkonyan’s entry to Georgia not banned, Embassy clarifies
Director of RA NAS Institute of History, academician Ashot Melkonyan can enter the territory of Georgia without any restriction, Armenian Embassy to Georgia reported in a released statement on Wednesday.
“The Armenian Embassy to Georgia received information from relevant state bodies of Georgia that the incident occurred on June 6 when Ashot Melkonyan was denied entry to Georgia at Kartsakhi checkpoint of the Turkish-Georgian border took place due to technical mistake. The citizen of Armenia Ashot Melkonyan can enter the territory of Georgia without any obstruction,” the statement read.
To remind, earlier Melkonyan told Panorama.am he was denied entry to Georgia from Turkey and could cross the border only after the Armenian Embassy contacted relevant bodies to get the permission for the transit to the territory of Armenia. He had even been notified to avoid staying overnight in Georgia.
