A statue of Marilyn Monroe was stolen Monday from a more than two-story public art piece in Hollywood, The Hill reported, citing The Associated Press.

The statue depicted Monroe in “The Seven Year Itch” and sat atop the “Four Ladies of Hollywood” gazebo, with statues of Dorothy Dandridge, Dolores Del Rio, Mae West and Anna May Wong holding up its pillars, according to the AP.

Los Angeles Councilman Mitch O’Farrell said someone was seen climbing the gazebo and sawing the statue off the art installation. Police say they have recovered fingerprints from the structure.

"We got a few prints with our experts up there," Det. Douglas Oldfield of the Los Angeles Police Department told NBC4. The gazebo “means something to the community and we're going to investigate this to the best of our ability,” he added.

Security camera footage apparently shows someone jumping down from the gazebo and walking away with a backpack, while that person and another unknown person, both of whom are wearing caps, are visible on the Hollywood Walk of Fame with the backpack before entering the nearby Roosevelt Hotel, according to the station.

The theft itself is not captured in any security footage.
