Vigen Kocharyan elected new member of Supreme Judicial Council
Vigen Kocharyan was elected on Friday new member of Armenia’s Supreme Judicial Council (SJC). Kocharyan’s candidacy nominated by the ruling “My Step” fraction was approved by 114 in favor votes during the closed voting, the Chairman of the National Assembly Calculating Committee Vahagn Hovakimyan said.
To remind, 5 out of the 10 Supreme Judicial Council members stepped down over the past month, including SCJ Chairman Gagik Harutyunyan who tendered his resignation on May 24.
The Supreme Judicial Council is an independent state body comprised of ten members. Five members of the Council are elected by the General Assembly of Judges, another five members — by the National Assembly.
