Armenia secures gold at European freestyle wrestling championship
Armenia’s representative Lyova Gevorgyan (92 kg) was named freestyle wrestling champion among cadets at the European Championship underway in Faenza, Italy.
As the National Olympic Committee reported, In the final fight Gevorgyan had a volitional victory 6:3 over Russia’s Islam Karton. The young wrestler had started the competition from the qualification round where had defeated 4:0 Azerbaijani Sagadulla Agaev.
In the 1/8 finals our wrestler had overcome 10:0 Greek Gviki Bliatze.
In the ¼ final Gevorgyan had prevailed over Bulgarian Vasilev Karamfilkov, 11:0 and in the semifinal he had won 10:0 Macedonia’s Redjep Hajdar.
On June 23 wrestler Grenik Asatryan (60 kg) became a silver medalist losing the final bout (1:6) to Azerbaijan’s Sabir Javarov. Menua Yribekyan at 71 kg became a bronze medalist winning 6:4 Moldavian Lilian Balan.
