Georgian citizen of Armenian descent suffered in Tbilisi clashes
An ethnic Armenian citizen of Georgia is among the injured in violent clashes outside the Georgian parliament overnight 20-21 June, the Armenian Embassy in Georgia said in a statement.
The citizen, identified as Davit Grigoryan, has suffered injuries in the head and has undergone a surgery. His health condition is assessed as stable at the moment, the embassy said.
Armenian diplomats in Georgia have paid a visit to the hospital to acquire first-hand information on the victim’s condition.
“The embassy stays in constant contact with doctors and will issue statements about Davit Grigoryan’s health condition,” the statement read.
Hundreds of people, both protesters and police officers, were injured in the clashes, some of them seriously, as demonstrators pushed against lines of riot police, threw bottles and stones, and grabbed riot shields, drawing a tough response. They had been protesting over a visit to the parliament by a Russian lawmaker.
