Armenian authorities thwart drug smuggling attempt from Turkey
Officers of Armenia’s State Revenue Committee in cooperation with officers of the Bagratashen customs checkpoint have recently foiled an attempt to smuggle pharmaceutical drugs into the country on a bus coming from Turkey.
In a statement released on Thursday, the committee says officers have discovered a total of 3.5kg pharmaceutical drugs hidden from customs control in the cargo belonging to an Armenian passenger of the bus, whose identity is not disclosed.
The passenger, however, said he was unaware of the presence of the drugs in the cargo, insisting another passenger had given them to him as an accompanying cargo upon the instruction of the director of the route transportation company.
The medication has been seized. A report on violation of customs rules have been filed and forwarded to the respective division of the State Revenue Committee to determine the future course of action.
