Draft anti-corruption strategy entails dissolution of Armenia’s SIS, chief says
A draft anti-corruption strategy published on the unified website for draft legal acts – e-draft.am – entails creation of a new anti-corruption agency and dissolution of the Special Investigative Service (SIS), the chief of the service revealed.
“But it’s still a draft. There is no concrete law put into effect at the moment. Let’s wait and see,” SIS head Sasun Khachatryan told reporters on Monday.
Asked whether he is likely to leave the post, the investigation chief said it’s not for him to decide on the matter.
Replying to another question about whether any change has been observed in Armenia’s prosecution system since last year’s ‘velvet revolution’, Khachatryan stressed he sees positive changes in the system and didn’t elaborate.
Separately, he neither confirmed nor declined some reports alleging Artsakh President Bako Sahakyan has been questioned as part of a criminal investigation into the March 2008 post-election events in Yerevan.
