Yerevan residents protest over poor waste disposal outside city hall
A group of Yerevan residents staged a protest outside the Municipality building over poor waste management in the capital.
The citizens collected the garbage from Arshakunyats Street and dumped it at the entrance of the city hall, shouting “enjoy it all.”
A participant of the campaign “Handing over trash to the Yerevan Municipality”, Sona Aghekyan, who previously served as a Council of Elders member, stated that the garbage has not been removed from the containers on the street for 21 days already. She accused the Municipality of inaction.
“Be prepared for the worst,” one of the protesters said.
Aghekyan said police officers have detained three of the participants for ‘failing to obey their lawful demands and intentionally damaging property.’
Meanwhile, the Armenian Police told Panorama.am seven citizens have been detained on suspicion of ‘hooliganism’.
