Armenia’s security chief tasks to investigate major power blackout
Director of Armenia’s National Security Service Artur Vanesyan has instructed to prepare materials on Wednesday’s electricity frequency fluctuations and mass outages to reveal the causes of the national power grid collapse.
Speaking at a government meeting on Thursday, he said although there are preliminary findings, a thorough investigation should be carried out to conclude whether there are responsible people or not, whether inactivity caused the incident or not.
“I will report the results,” the security chief said.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said Armenia’s Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructures is also investigating the emergency.
He added the entire power distribution system was restored at 8pm yesterday.
“I would like to express my gratitude to our partners in Iran and Georgia, who provided operational support and it was possible to avoid a long-term collapse of the power grid,” the PM said.
“We can record that our energy system has demonstrated sufficient flexibility and vitality. We just need to understand the causes of the accident,” Pashinyan said.
