Armenia thwarts drug smuggling attempt by Iranian citizen
Customs agents and officers of the anti-smuggling department of Armenia’s State Revenue Committee have foiled an attempt to smuggle narcotic drugs into Canada by an Iranian citizen.
This time the smugglers attempted to transport drugs through a postal package, the committee’s press service told Panorama.am.
The officers discovered 2,528 grams of opium staffed inside the parcel after searching it at the cargo complex of the Yerevan Zvartnots International Airport.
The parcel was being transferred to Canada on behalf of an Iranian citizen and allegedly contained a good of Iranian production.
A criminal case has been launched under Article 267.1 of Armenia’s Criminal Code.
Measures are being taken to identify other persons involved in the crime.
