Lawyers to appeal Kocharyan’s arrest ruling in the Court of Cassation
The lawyers of Armenia’s second President Robert Kocharyan who was taken into custody charged with “overthrowing the constitutional order” have appealed the arrest ruling of the Yerevan Court of Appeals to higher instance - the Court of Cassation which is the highest tribunal of the Republic of Armenia. As the defense team of the ex-president said in a statement on Friday the lawyers have lodges two appeals over the lower court decision.
To remind, the Yerevan Court of Appeals ruled on June 25 to arrest ex-president Robert Kocharyan, granting the prosecutors’ appeals against a lower court’s decisions to release Kocharyan from custody.
Judge Armen Danielyan, presiding over the high-profile trial, announced the decision despite the personal guarantees provided by current and former Artsakh presidents to a Yerevan court requesting the release of ex-President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan from pre-trial detention.
