Armenia’s NSS thwarts drug trafficking attempts
The National Security Service (NSS) of Armenia has exposed several drug trafficking attempts by a group of persons as part of operations to combat illegal drug trafficking and smuggling in the country.
In a statement on Friday, the service said two Armenian citizens were detained after smuggling a kilo of methamphetamine into Armenia via Iranian border. As a result of operative-intelligence measures, the two men were caught while transporting the drugs in the town of Kapan.
In another case disclosed by the NSS, a crime group attempted to smuggle ecstasy into Armenia from the U.S. by a postal package. The parcel contained 148 pills totaling to around 1.5 million drams. The group members were detained immediately after receiving the parcel.
The National Security Service has launched criminal cases under the respective articles of the Criminal Code. Three people are facing charges.
Preliminary probe is underway.
