Tokyo 2020: Japanese buy 3.22 million tickets in first phase of tickets sales
Around 3.22 million tickets sold in the first phase of the Tokyo 2020 ticket sales ahead of the Olympic Games. More than 90 per cent of those who were awarded tickets during the first phase of the ticket lottery purchased them, a fact that indicates the growing passion for the Olympic Games, the National Olympic Committee reported.
For those fans who were not awarded a ticket there will be an additional lottery in August which will give them a chance to buy a wide range of tickets before the start of another sales phase.
A total of 7,508,868 people signed up for Tokyo 2020 website that is the first step required for the participation in the ticket lottery and during the ticket application the official website was visited more than 24,250,000 times. Tokyo 2020 continues preparing actively for the Olympic Games.
Recently a new canoe center has been opened. It was build by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and during the Games it will host kayak and canoe competitions and after the Games it will be open to the public.
Organisers of the Games also announced that the Olympic Stadium is 90 per cent complete and will be completely ready by November. Football and athletic competitions, as well as the Opening and Closing Ceremonies will be held in the stadium.
