Police officers injured in clashes with protester in Ijevan released from hospitals
The health condition of police officers injured in clashes with protesters in Ijevan is assessed satisfactory, Police Chief Valery Osipyan has said to tert.am.
“While there is no threat to their lives, they have received injuries of various gravity. The preliminary investigation is underway to assess the circumstances,” Osipyan said, adding it is not to speak of clashes but rather the fact that the law enforcers have been attacked and beaten by citizens.
To note, the incident took place late on Wednesday as locals demanding a permission for forest logging blocked Ijevan-Yerevan highway. At the lawful demand of the police to open the road the protesters attacked them with metal poles, batons and stones as a result of which 12 police officers suffered injuries and hospitalized in Ijevan medical centers.
“As of morning on July18 no policeman receives treatment at the medical institution,” Osipyan added.
To note, Armenia’s Investigative Committee has opened a criminal investigation over violence and disobedience to the police under Article 316 of the Criminal Code.
