Supreme Judicial Council elects new chairman
Armenia’s Supreme Judicial Council, an oversight body tasked with monitoring the judiciary, elected on Friday its next chairman. As the press service at the Council told Panorama.am the Council elected Ruben Vardazaryan to serve its new chairman in a secret vote attended by the Council members.
The post of the chairman was vacant since May 2019 when Gagik Harutyunyan, previous chairman resigned citing the recent developments surrounding the judiciary authorities and judges in Armenia.
The Supreme Judicial Council is an independent state body comprised of ten members. Five members of the Council are elected by the General Assembly of Judges, another five members — by the National Assembly.
