Ambassador: EU’s position on Karabakh settlement remains unchanged
The position of the European Union on the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh (Artskah) conflict has not changed, Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Piotr Świtalski told a news conference on Monday.
“The position of the European Union on the settlement of Nagorno-Karabakh remains the same and it’s a position based on certain fundamental principles,” said Świtalski, who is completing his diplomatic mission in Armenia.
“First of all, we believe there is no military solution to the conflict, that the conflict can be settled only through peaceful means. Secondly, we support the mediation activities of the Minsk Group. Nothing has changed in our position. I believe there is no reason to fear that the EU is changing its position,” he stressed.
The ambassador's comments come after European Council President Donald Tusk announced in Baku earlier in July that he recognizes Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.
During his recent visit to Armenia and Azerbaijan Tusk also stressed that there is no military solution to the Karabakh conflict, but only a political settlement in accordance with the international law and principles.
