Foreign Ministry not commenting on Armenia-Azerbaijan border tension
The Armenian Foreign Ministry refrains from commenting at the moment on the recent ceasefire violations by Azerbaijani military in the northeastern part of the Armenian state border, in the direction of Tavush, as a result of which one soldier was killed, while another was wounded.
The Defense Ministry told Panorama.am the situation along the border was relatively calm on Sunday night.
“The shootings continued yesterday as well, but were relatively fewer. The Armenian side is opening retaliatory fire,” the ministry’s spokesman, Artsrun Hovhannisyan said.
Azerbaijan has intensified shootings in the direction of Tavush for 3-4 days already.
In a statement on Saturday, the Defense Ministry said the recent provocation by the Azerbaijani side once again proves that the adversary continues to blatantly violate the ceasefire regime and intentionally escalate the situation on the border.
“The Azerbaijani side bears full responsibility for the escalation,” the ministry warned.
Meantime, the ceasefire breeches has also increased on the Artsakh-Azerbaijan Line of Contact: the Azerbaijani forces violated the ceasefire around 150 times last week, firing more than 1,300 shots towards the Armenian defense positions, against the 95 ceasefire breaches and over 900 shootings reported in the previous week.
