Armenian divers take a tour to Aghtamar island to dive into Lake Van
New scuba diving centers have been launched in Van city to promote the recreational activity and boost tourist in the region, Ermenihaber reported, adding the new centers have attracted also Armenia divers.
According to the source, a group of ten Armenia divers have left to Akhtamar island for the unique experience. Accompanied by Turkish scuba trainers, the Armenians have dived 18 meters deep into Lake Van and watched historical battlements and tombstones.
“The number of local and international tourists is increasing day by day. Today, we hosted a group of 10 divers from Armenia. The Armenian divers dived from Akhtamar island which is an symbolic site for them. The lake is gradually becoming a favorite destination for tourists,” one of the trainers is quoted by the source.
Lake Van is the largest body of water in Turkey and the second largest in the Middle East. The lake is located in the region of eastern Anatolia near the border of Iran and Armenia. It covers an area of 1,434 3,713 square km.
