Armenian Prosecutor’s Office releases details of criminal case against judge Davit Grigoryan
The Prosecutor General’s Office of Armenia has released details of the criminal prosecution against judge Davit Grigoryan facing forgery charges.
In a statement on Tuesday, the office reminded that Armenia’s acting attorney general on 26 July petitioned the Supreme Judicial Council to allow the prosecution of the judge on three counts as part of a criminal probe into official forgery. On the next day, the council allowed criminal proceedings on two counts.
According to the statement, in 2018 Grigoryan, with the assistance of a trial secretary, attached fake protocols to two court cases assigned to him.
“Preliminary investigation into this criminal case is underway. The relevant procedural decisions will be made public in the near future in a manner prescribed by law,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, addressing concerns of some lawyers over the criminal case, the Prosecutor’s Office reminded that the principles of equality before the law and the inevitability of criminal liability envisaged by Articles 6 and 7 of Armenia’s Criminal Code apply to any person who has allegedly committed a crime irrespective of his status, position, and functions.
