Protesters show ‘yellow card’ to Yerevan mayor, call for serious action
Members of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation’s (ARF) Yerevan City Committee and Nikol Aghbalyan Student Union are staging a protest outside the Yerevan Municipality building to voice about numerous issues persisting in the Armenian capital.
Protesters demand Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan and the Council of Elders to fulfill the election campaign promises and deal with the problems.
They claim the mayor and his team failed to fulfil any of their promises over the past ten months.
“Today we want to remind the Yerevan mayor of the promises he has made and to urge him to take serious action,” demonstrators told reporters, citing the garbage disposal issue, as well as the poor conditions of transport, elevators and underground passages in the capital.
ARF Yerevan City Committee member Ara Rostomyan said they are showing the first yellow card to the mayor as a warning, stressing residents want to live in a prosperous Yerevan.
The ARF members said they are ready to help resolve the issues, but stressed the political force, which gained 80 and more percent of the votes during last year’s election, is responsible for what it did and did not do.
