109 Armenian citizens stuck in Egypt’s beach resort city of Hurghada will today be flown to Yerevan, Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan told a cabinet meeting on Thursday.

The deputy PM stressed the return of hundreds of Armenian citizens left stranded in Hurghada due to the cancellation of several Hurghada-Yerevan flights has been made possible due to the intensive work with several agencies, in particular thanks to the efforts of the Foreign Ministry and the Armenian ambassador to Egypt.

Avinyan said two charter flights from Hurghada to Yerevan were operated on 26 and 29 July, transporting 132 and 183 tourists, including 8 minors, to Yerevan, respectively.

“Later it turned out that there are 109 other Armenian citizens stranded in Hurghada. Today, at 2:25pm, they will be flown to Yerevan by a plane of Taron-Avia Airline,” he said.

The deputy PM stressed the need to take measures to prevent such incidents and to hold those responsible to account.

He proposed to hold discussions on the matter within two weeks.

Armenian Police Chief Valeriy Osipyan said for his part a criminal case has been launched against the A & R Tour, a Yerevan-bound travel agency which sold tour packages to the citizens, for failing to fulfil its financial obligations.
