Sanitek Armenia under ‘aggressive administrative pressure’, director claims
Sanitek Armenia CEO Nicholas Tawil decried the criminal case launched against the waste disposal company as ‘illegal’, accusing the authorities of intending to seize the company’s property.
His comments came during an online news conference via Skype from Tbilisi.
The director claimed the reason of holding the press conference in the Georgian capital is that Sanitek has been subjected to ‘aggressive administrative pressure’ for a long time.
He stressed one of the forms of pressure was the criminal proceedings launched against the company in February 2019. “The criminal case is illegal, groundless and politically motivated,” he said.
The Sanitek chief said the case is yet another attempt of the Yerevan Municipality to exhaust the company's financial resources and expropriate its property.
He recalled the statements made in the past according to which the termination of the contract with Sanitek was a politically motivated decision.
Over the past year Sanitek Armenia was fined twice by Yerevan Municipality for failing to conduct proper garbage disposal in the Armenian capital. The company objected to the issued notifications, claiming the failures are linked with ‘objective reasons’, in this case the damages caused to the garbage trucks due to the absence of necessary conditions at the disposal site, as well as a high number of burnt or damaged waste containers and other issues.
