Minister: Five rivers feeding Lake Sevan polluted with biogenic substances
Five rivers flowing into Lake Sevan are contaminated with biogenic substances, Environment Minister Erik Grigoryan said in a Facebook post.
According to Grigoryan, a water quality monitoring conducted by the ministry in 10 rivers flowing into the lake revealed biogenic elements in Gavaraget, Tsakkar, Shoghvag, Masrik and Argichi rivers.
The biogenic elements are allegedly caused by household wastewaters dumped into the rivers as well as agricultural runoff, the minister said, adding as a result a significant amount of nitrogen and phosphorus are washed away in Lake Sevan.
