Ex-military officer, his accomplice arrested on suspicion of bribery in Armenia
A former top military officer and his accomplice have been arrested on suspicion of receiving bribes in large amounts, the National Security Service said in a statement on Friday.
According to the preliminary data, the former officer of one of the military commissariats in the country and his accomplice arranged exemptions and deferments from military service in return for bribes during the summer military conscription in 2019. They reportedly received $2000-15,000 in bribes from 13 would-be conscripts.
In addition, investigators have revealed that the person collaborating with the ex-officer was also engaged in arranging an early discharge from the military service for two servicemen with the support of a military hospital doctor.
Three people have been charged in the case, with the former high-ranking officer and his accomplice placed under pre-trial arrest.
The investigation continues, the NSS said, urging citizens to refrain from illegal actions for avoiding the mandatory military service.
