Sanitek: Yerevan Municipality continues to operate unilaterally
Lebanese-run waste management company Sanitek insists the Yerevan Municipality has ignored its short-term and long-term solutions to the garbage crisis in Yerevan.
In a statement on Friday, the company said it submitted two proposals, both short-term and long-term, to the Yerevan Municipality on 2 August to help resolve the issue, however those proposals have been left unanswered to date.
“Such an attitude allows us to assume that the immediate correction of the situation is not the Municipality's primary concern. The Municipality continues to operate unilaterally without developing a clear waste management policy,” the company said.
Meanwhile, Sanitek says the Yerevan city hall is ‘illegally’ removing the company’s garbage containers and failing to make payments, as a result of which the situation is getting out of control.
Sanitek also expressed hope the current garbage crisis in the city will be solved after the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Development starts dealing with the waste management issue in the country upon the 8 August government decision.
Sanitek has been under fire for months for its poor waste disposal services in the Armenian capital, being fined twice since the beginning of this year by the city authorities.
