Poor family who lost everything in house fire in Armenian village needs help
A poor family of seven that has lost everything in a house fire in the village of Chinchin in Armenia’s Tavush Povince now needs help.
The fire that erupted on 10 August fully destroyed the Gyozalyan family’s house and their whole property.
Speaking to a Panorama.am correspondent, Chinchin Mayor Karen Darbinyan said the village administration is holding a fundraising to help the needy family replenish what has been lost.
“They are one of the poorest families in the village with four minors, three of whom have health problems. Now we ought to do our best to resolve the housing issue of the family in the shortest period possible,” the mayor said.
The village head said the Berd Municipality and Tavush Governor’s Office have expressed readiness to help the family. Meanwhile, the villagers have also organized a fundraising to help the Gyozalyans.
The mayor says they are planning to construct a new house for the family, since rebuilding their house burnt down in the fire would cost much more.
“Now we need to provide them with a roof. They can reconstruct their house if they are able to in the future,” Darbinyan said, adding they are negotiating to buy one of the houses on sale in the village at the moment.
The mayor says the houses in Chinchin are unusually sold for $5-10 thousand.
The village mayor also calls on all caring people to provide clothing shoes, and other essentials to the family.
According to him, the father of the family, Albert Gyozalyan, who is a laborer, has no permanent job, while his wife collects and sells berries in summer for the family to survive.
“Our task is to help our fellow villagers, not to leave them alone. That’s why we urge everyone to reach out to the family. The most important thing is for them to have a roof over their heads,” the mayor said.
