Junior World C’ships: Armenian wrestler Hovhannes Maghakyan to fight for bronze
The Junior World Wrestling Championships are underway in Tallinn, Estonia.
Freestyle wrestlers at 61, 74, 86, 92 and 125 kg weight classes started their performances on Tuesdy, the Armenian National Olympic Committee's press service reports.
At 61 kg Armenia was represented by Hrachya Margaryan who suffered a painful 4-4 defeat at the hands of German Nico Megerle from the first bout. Later the German wrestler lost too and Margaryan missed the chance to fight for bronze.
At 74 kg Davit Gevorgyan started the competition from the 1/8 finals and was defeated 6-9 by Greek Georgios Kougioumtsidis. In the quarterfinals the Greek wrestler lost 2-12 to Azerbaijan’s Khadzimurad Gadzhiev leaving Davit without a hope to wrestle for bronze.
In the 86 kg weight class Mher Markosyan lost 2-5 to Canada’s Hunter Lee in the 1/8 finals. In the quarterfinals the Canadian wrestler was beaten 1-5 by India’s Deepak Punia and Markosyan was deprived of a repechage bout.
Hovhannes Maghakyan at 125 kg entered the competition from the 1/8 finals, losing 0-10 to Iran’s Amir Zare.
The Iranian wrestler reached the finals giving Maghakyan an opportunity to spend a repechage bout and struggle for bronze.
