Armenia's justice minister says he is under no obligation to have Istanbul Convention ratified
Armenia’s Justice Minister Rustam Badasyan claims there is no obligation upon him to have the Istanbul Convention ratified by all means.
His comments came in response to a question at a briefing after a cabinet meeting on Thursday.
The minister did not agree with a reporter’s observation that the majority of lawmakers apparently oppose the ratification of the document.
“Where have you seen that the majority of MPs are against? I do not know any such thing, I just know that the discussions are underway,” Badasyan said. “I am under no obligation to have the Istanbul Convention ratified in any way.”
Asked whether he will resign if Armenia fails to ratify the convention, the justice minster replied with a question: “Why should I resign?”
