Yerevan appellate court cancels hearing in Kocharyan case
The Yerevan Court of Appeals has cancelled the hearing in the trial of Armenia’s second President Robert Kocharyan scheduled for Friday, at 3:30pm.
The court, presided over by judge Andranik Mnatsakanyan, was set to hear the appeal on not dropping the criminal charges against the ex-president due to his immunity from prosecution.
In a statement on Friday, Kocharyan’s defense team said the court hearing was cancelled amid the absence of the presiding judge who was due to take part in a general meeting of judges.
Kocharyan, who is charged with overthrowing Armenia’s constitutional order during March 2008 post-election events, is currently placed under arrest pending the outcome of his trial.
