Police detain six people protesting against Amulsar mine exploitation
The Armenian law enforcement detained six citizens on Monday who had been protesting outside the parliament building in Yerevan against the possible exploitation of Amulsar mine. As Panorama.am learnt from press department at the Police, the detainees were transferred to Police Arabkir division for administrative offenses.
As reported earlier, the protesters, predominantly Jermuk residents and environmentalist had been holding a protest against the possible exploitation of the gold mine since early morning. Around 50 cars arrived from Jermuk in an organized car race to join the protest action. Later during the day the protesters attempted to enter the park of the parliament and then block Baghramyan avenue after the police officers closed the gates to the parliament.
The protests come against the backdrop of series of consultations PM Pashinyan has held since Morning with lawmakers, representatives of Jermuk community and other interested stakeholders over Amulsar exploitation. It is expected, the PM will address the matter in a statement later today as he informed on his Facebook page, wrapping up the consultations.
