Rotterdam confirmed as host city for the Eurovision Song Contest 2020
Rotterdam has been selected as the host city for the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest, to be held in May next year. The Metro newspaper reports, this will mark the fourth time the Netherlands have hosted the event, but the first time it will be held in Rotterdam in the Ahoy Arena, after they triumphed in 2019’s competition. Duncan Laurence won Eurovision last year, giving the Netherlands its first Eurovision win since 1975 and meaning the show will take place in his home country next year.
Five cities in the Netherlands had pitched to host the 65th Eurovision Song Contest, but due to various restrictions on the venue placed by the EBU (European Broadcasting Union) and venue availability, only Rotterdam and Maastricht were left in the running. Eurovision 2020 will take place on 16 May 2020, and fans planning to attend from the UK will be grateful for its easy links to Britain.
